Public Art: North Valley Graffiti/Mural Alley
Spring starts today. It's a great time for walks that explore the MetroABQ. There are dozens of great places to find oneself in the city, from a North Valley public art arroyo called Graffiti Alley, image below, to the historic 87 year old Rio Puerco Bridge west of town.
Exploring the North Valley one day around Montao Blvd & 2nd St heading north, I came across an arroyo with graffiti & murals blanketing the walls on both side of the alley. Walking it, the arroyo twists east & turns & ultimately leads to the railroad tracks, where the murals continue south. The artwork seemed to span decades, given the environmental wear & the paint-overs of earlier works.
Although probably not considered Public Art by many, it is one of the little-known areas of the MetroABQ where folks were allowed to create mural artwork that is not for sale, & may not be there the next time I go...Check out Mural Fest!
